Using Compare Your Options

How to start, keep, reopen, and use your Compare Your Options work.

Compare alternatives using evidence, priorities, and unanswered questions.

Open Compare Your Options

Start with the work in front of you

  1. Name your decision and the options. Add the criteria that matter in this comparison.
  2. Record known details, assumptions, and questions for each option. Set priorities deliberately.
  3. Record your reasoning, trade-offs, checks, and next action. Download reusable copy to revisit the decision.

Keep it and pick it up again

The JSON file keeps the options, criteria, evidence, and decision notes. PDF and text are reading copies.

  1. Check your browser’s Downloads for the actual file. Keep the .json extension; a meaningful name and date can help you recognize the copy.
  2. Choose Open saved work below, select that file, and check the tool and summary shown.
  3. Continue in the tool. If there is already work open there, review the replacement prompt. Cancel to keep editing or download the current work before replacing it.

What to keep in view

The current tool supports two to four options and up to eight criteria per comparison. Priorities organize your thinking; they do not establish objective truth or replace missing evidence.

If it does not look right

If the file will not open, leave the original unchanged and read the error. A reading copy cannot substitute for the editable JSON. If you reopened an older copy, look for a later download; do not overwrite the current work while checking.

Keep your open draft?

Continuing will discard your unsaved changes. You can return to the draft and save or download it first.
