Help / A useful way forward

Open saved work

Check a Brass Charter editable file and continue in the right tool.

Choose your editable download

The original file stays unchanged. Checking a file does not replace any open work.

Choose a JSON file downloaded from a supported tool. The largest supported file is an Owner Overview at 96 MB; each tool has its own smaller limit where applicable.

What happens next

  1. The file’s contents, format version, and tool-specific structure are checked. A filename or extension alone is not enough.
  2. Review the identified tool and the file’s entered title, dates, or record counts where available. A valid file can still be an older copy.
  3. Continue in the tool. If a replacement prompt appears, cancel to keep current work or download it before explicitly replacing it.
  4. Review the reopened work. Changes stay in this page until you download a new editable copy.

Have a PDF, text, CSV, or calendar file?

Those copies have different purposes. A PDF or text report cannot restore a full book, and changing the extension does not convert it. Keep the file you have while looking for the editable JSON download.

What stays private

This file checker reads the selected file locally in your browser. It does not upload the file or save it to an account. Its preview can show entered titles and counts, so use a private screen for sensitive work. Clearing the selection releases the checker’s copy; work already opened in a tool remains there until you replace it or close the page.

Keep your open draft?

Continuing will discard your unsaved changes. You can return to the draft and save or download it first.
