Help / A useful way forward

Keep your work and return later

Know what stays in this tab, what a download keeps, and how to move to another device.

A simple habit that keeps work usable

  1. After useful changes, choose the tool’s reusable or editable JSON download. Complete any fields that tool requires for its export.
  2. Check Downloads and make sure the file is there. “Prepared” means the download was requested, not that the browser has confirmed a file was saved.
  3. Keep the file somewhere you can find it. A business or project name and date help; preserve the .json ending. Avoid overwriting your only earlier copy until you have checked the new one.
  4. Next time, open that file with Open saved work, review it, and continue. Download again after the next changes.
Open saved work

While you move around this site

The tools keep their open work in memory while you move between pages inside the site. A refresh, closed tab, browser crash, or a different device can lose work that has not been downloaded. A leave-page warning is an extra prompt, not a backup.

My Work and accounts

My work helps you reopen an editable download and find the right tool. No sign-in is needed. Private accounts and online saving are planned; your files do not currently sync between devices or tabs.

Continue on another device

  1. Download the editable JSON on the first device and verify that you have it.
  2. Move that file using a method you already trust. Check who can access it because an editable book can contain private records.
  3. On the other device, open Brass Charter → Help → Open saved work and select the transferred file.
  4. Treat the two copies as separate. Decide which is current; edits do not automatically sync or merge.

An older or missing copy

Look in browser Downloads, your chosen save folder, and any location where you moved the file. Sorting by download time can help locate candidates, but does not prove the business data is current. The opener shows entered dates where present; it does not invent a last-saved date.

If no editable copy exists and the tab is gone, Brass Charter cannot recover work that was never downloaded. Keep any PDF or text copy as a reference for re-entering the information.

Keep your open draft?

Continuing will discard your unsaved changes. You can return to the draft and save or download it first.
